This Past Weekend's Reverse Tri and Running Emphasis This Week

So I finally put it all together on Saturday for the first time and did a reverse tri training session - a 30 min run, 60 min bike, followed by a 30 min swim. All in all things felt pretty good. I'm absolutely psyched that the nice weather has finally arrived and it's going to make training sessions and getting up in the morning a lot easier!

This week's training sessions will focus on the run. There will be two 60 min run's with a long 90 min run on Sunday. There will be some shorter swims and biking sessions mixed in, but it's all about running this week.

For those that are interested, there is a really cool web site that stores millions of jogging routes in a database for free viewing. Just pop in your criteria (ie. desired length, location, type of route, etc.) and you can see a map of your route. http://www.usatf.org/routes/

Swimming and Running workouts this week

Kids' school April vacation is putting a damper on my swimming focus week as the Framingham Y is reserving 3 of the 4 lanes for their swimming lessons during the normal lap swim times. So I've be hitting the treadmill this week instead and will hopefully have better luck at the Reading Y today.

This Saturday I will put it all together for the first time and do a reverse tri session. Starting with a 30 min run followed by a 60 min bike and a 30 min swim.

Here's a list of this week's workouts so far:

Thu 4/23/09 5:30 am Run 30 min 3.5 mi 8:34 min per mile Effort: 11
Wed 4/22/09 12:00 pm Run 30 min 3.5 mi 8:34 min per mile Effort: 11

Beginning of Week 9 - Swim Focus Week

For the next three weeks I will be focused on a specific sport each week mixed in with some other workouts. This week's focus is on the swim.

Some resistance training this morning and a long swim this afternoon.

Did a long run yesterday and the legs are feeling a little stiff today, but it's getting much easier to run outside with the nice weather coming.

Napa/SF and the Beginning of Week 8

It's been a while since my last post, but to catch you up...Jamie and I had unbelievable time in Wine Country and San Francisco. One of the best vacations we've ever been on. Amazing scenery, food, and wine!! Weather in Napa was beautiful - three straight 75 degree sunny days. We took a bike tour through the Stags Leap and Oakville areas of the valley and stopped at 4 wineries along the way, visited some really cool wineries on our own the next day, and made it to the oldest winery in either Sonoma or Napa (Buena Vista Vineyards) the following day.

By far, the coolest winery we visited was called Pride Mountain near Calistoga and St. Helena. It's a hidden vineyard way on the mountain side of the valley and the 5 mile winding road to get up there was definitely a hairy ride - Jamie can vouch for this! But it was definitely worth it. Their property, wines, wine cave and tasting room were unbelievable!!

We also had a great time in San Francisco and enjoyed some amazing Sushi, Dungeness Crab, Sour Dough bread, and some more great wine! I think overall we tasted over 60 different wines while we there.

Alcatraz was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. The self guided audio tour is unreal and walks you through just what life was like at the prison and is narrated by former prison guards and inmates.

Back to regular training this week. We were able to workout quite a bit in the morning's while we were away, but it wasn't the intensive training that I get following the schedule. I brought the new bike into the local bike shop in Natick to have it assembled yesterday and today I have an appointment to get it properly fitted and adjusted. The session lasts about an hour and half and measures your flexibility, limbs, inseam, reach, torso, power angles, etc. It is designed to give you the most efficient pedaling motion in order to save your legs for the run.

Tomorrow I'll get back to it with a morning run and lunchtime swim.
